Bad news for those in the ticket reselling business, but great news for music lovers. Ireland has decided to ban reselling tickets for more than face value.
The Irish Cabinet has agreed on legislation that bans the reselling of tickets for more than face value. Artists have been very vocal about the massive ticket scalping issue going on worldwide. ODESZA even hired a scalper sweep for their Red Rocks shows and re-released tickets for fans who expressed their dissatisfaction after both nights sold out instantly and tickets popped up for triple the original selling price.
In exact terms, the legislation will “ban the above-face-value resale of tickets for sporting and entertainment events in designated venues with a capacity of 1,000 or over”. “Time and time again, fans are being told that all tickets are sold out on the primary sales website, while almost immediately being able to buy those same tickets at much higher prices on other websites,” a spokesperson for the Minister of business said.
We hope this trend continues for other countries worldwide.
